Crystal Structure and Host-Guest Binding Ability of Three Types of Pillar[5]arenes

2015

A systematic research of the structural characterization and the host-guest binding abilities between three types of pillar[5]arenes 3–5 (3 for Structure Type I, 4 for Structure Type II and 5 for Structure Type III) is carried out by 1H NMR measurements and X-ray study. The results show that the configurations or symmetry of their cavities not only have large difference in these three types of pillar[5]arenes, but also have more or less variations even in the same structure type or the same host locked different guests such as crystals of 3a–3b, 4a–4d. On the other hand, the complexation behavior of pillar[5]arenes with 1,4-dibromobutane (DBB) is affected by the different symmetrical struct…

Utilization of water glass as an activator in the manufacturing of cementitious materials from waste by-products

1987

Abstract In the present paper, the possibility of producing new-type cementless building materials is discussed when water glass as an activating agent is used. The experimental data are presented for a set of raw materials which normally do not show any binding ability. However, if they undergo some physico-chemical treatment and water glass is used, a solid structure of the material is formed. According to the method described here, lots of different mineral waste by-products could be activated, thus gaining binding properties.

Calorimetric and viscosimetric investigation of the interaction between α,β-polyasparthydrazide and sodium dodecyl sulfate micelles

1993

Abstract The interaction between α,β-polyasparthydrazide (PAHy) and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) micelles in aqueous solution was investigated by calorimetry and viscosimetry. The dependence of the enthalpic effect due to this interaction upon the surfactant concentration was rationalized in terms of a progressive binding of SDS micelles to the polymeric backbone. The analysis of the calorimetric data allow evaluation of the binding ability of SDS micelles to the polymeric chain. The viscosimetric behavior of SDS plus PAHy aqueous solutions, discussed in terms of the parameter F [F = ηrel(PAHy) + ηrel(PAHy) − ηrel(SDS+PAHy)], confirms the occurence of the interaction between SDS micelles an…

Formation and Stability of Cadmium(II)/Phytate Complexes by Different Electrochemical Techniques. Critical Analysis of Results

2010

In the present work the stability constants of various cadmium(II)/phytate (Phy) species were determined at T = 298.15 K in NaNO3(aq) at I = 0.1 mol·L−1 by DP-ASV (Differential Pulse Anodic Stripping Voltammetry) and by potentiometric titrations using an ISE-Cd2+. Cyclic voltammograms were also recorded to check the electrochemical behavior of cadmium in the presence of phytate. The results were analyzed together with previous data determined by ISE-H+ measurements. Data obtained were used to provide an exhaustive speciation scheme for the phytate/cadmium(II) system at different conditions, as well as a comprehensive representation of the binding ability of phytate toward cadmium(II). Diffe…

Sequestration of organomettalic compounds by synthetic and naturally occuring polycarboxylate ligands. Binding of monomethylmercury(II) by polyacryli…

2007

The sequestering capacity of synthetic and naturally occurring polycarboxylate ligands towards mono- methylmercury(II) was evaluated by stability quantitative data on the interaction of CH3Hgþ with different molecular weight synthetic polyacrylates (2 and 20 kDa average M.wt) and alginate (70– 100 kDa) extracted from brown algae Macrocystis pyrifera. The influence of ionic medium was evaluated by measurements on the CH3Hgþ-polyacrylate systems in NaNO3 medium at different ionic strengths (0.10, 0.25, 0.50 and 0.75mol Lÿ1), and a Debye–Hu¨ ckel type equation was used for the dependence of complex formation constants on ionic strength. Measurements on the CH3Hgþ - alginate system were carried…

Host—Guest Interactions Involving Cyclodextrins: Useful Complementary Insights Achieved by Polarimetry.

2007

Abstract By means of simple polarimetry, we studied the binding abilities of native α-, β-, and γ-cyclodextrins toward a group of suitably chosen model guests. We were able to get reliable estimations of the binding constants K, spread over a wide range (from 3.7 to 12,300 M−1), allowing us to carry on interesting comparisons. A comprehensive discussion of polarimetric data, and in particular a detailed analysis of the variations ΔΘ of molar optical activities consequent to inclusion, offered us the opportunity to get useful insights into the structure and dynamic behavior of host–guest complexes.

Unusual binding ability of α,β-dehydrodipeptides towards metal ions

1994

Abstract Ni II , Zn II and Co II complexes of α,β-dehydro-dipeptides (containing Gly, Leu, Ala, Val or Phe residues) were studied by potentiometric and spectroscopic methods. Deprotonation and coordination of amide nitrogens occurred in all cases around the physiological pH range. The dipeptides with composition of Xaa-Δ-Ala formed octahedral species, while Gly-Δ-Xaa (Xaa = Leu or Phe) formed square planar bis complexes with Ni II .

endo-Functionalized molecular tubes : selective encapsulation of neutral molecules in non-polar media

2016

Four endo-functionalized molecular tubes with urea/thiourea groups in the deep cavities have been synthesized, and their binding ability to neutral molecules studied. Very high binding affinity and selectivity have been achieved, which are rationalized by invoking the shape and electrostatic complementarity and dipole alignment.

A spectrofluorimetric study of binary fluorophore-cyclodextrin complexes used as chiral selectors

2005

Abstract Six binary complexes between three fluorophores (pyrene, xanthone and anthraquinone) and β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) or heptakis-(6-amino)-(6-deoxy)-β-cyclodextrin (am-β-CD) were tested at two pH values (8.0 and 9.0) as chiral selectors for three α-amino acids chosen as model. The conditional constant (β2T) values for ternary complexes (fluorophore-CD-amino acid), determined by means of fluorescence spectroscopy, showed that the binary complexes are suitable receptors for chiral recognition. The effect of α-amino acids on stability and stoichiometric ratio of the binary complexes has also been studied. The binary complexes were in most cases stabilized by adding the ternary agent. The tr…
